About ITEP Course

The Integrated Teacher Education Programme (ITEP), introduced by the National Council for Teacher Education (NCTE), is a comprehensive four-year undergraduate course designed to develop skilled and trained teachers. ITEP aims to enhance the quality of teacher education and create educators who are ready to accept elementary and/or secondary classrooms to create new aged quality learners.

About College

Morigaon College (Autonomous) was established on 1st July, 1964. It is one of the oldest institutions of higher education of undivided Nagaon district of Assam. It has already completed 58 years as one of the premiere institutions actively engaged in nurturing and disseminating ray of education in the region. The college is located in the eastern part of the Morigaon Town, which is also the headquarter of Morigaon district of Assam. It is 70 Km away from Dispur, the state capital of Assam. The nearest railway station is Jagiroad (23km) and nearest airport is LGB airport, Borjhar, Guwahati (96 Km). In its initial two decades, the college imparted education only in Arts stream. The Science stream was introduced in 1985 and set to open up a new dimension by facilitating congenial environment to pursue higher education in Science and cultivating scientific temperament. In 2002 the college introduced several vocational and job-oriented courses like Computer Applications, Industrial Fish and Fisheries and Functional Hindi. In 2012 Commerce Stream in degree level was also introduced with a view to fulfilling the need of higher education in Commerce. This fulfilled the long felt absence of an academic centre for higher education in Commerce in the whole region. In the face of the current socio-economic background the UGC has reoriented and reshaped its policies and programme to make the Indian higher education system more career oriented with focus on quality and excellence. The college has earned the pride of owing Postgraduate Programme in the department of Geography in 2017 and Postgraduate Programme in Zoology, which was started in 2018. In the same year the college has started another professional course on Food Processing Technology. In the U.G. level, Sociology (General / Regular Course) has been introduced and with it, the number of subjects offered by the college has gone upto 24. The Gauhati University has recognized that Chemistry Laboratory of the college is highly capable of facilitating advance research works. Besides, in 2020 college has introduced Bachelor of Computer Applications and Bachelor of Journalism and Mass Communication.

ITEP at Morigaon College :

Morigaon College (Autonomous) has submitted proposal to NCTE for introduction of ITEP (BA.BEd and BSc.BEd) programmes from the academic session 2025-26. Already, we have received the LoI from the NCTE and all formalities have been made to appoint full-time Faculties and Staff. State Government has given due permission for the same and the Gauhati University has also issued NOC to the college. These two programmes (B.A.B.Ed. and B.Sc. B.Ed.) are dual degree programmes under Gauhati University in line with the mandate of NEP-2020. Students, who have completed their Higher Secondary (or Class XII) examinations are eligible for these four-year courses B.A.B.Ed. or B.Sc.B.Ed. degree. After completion of these programmes, students will be eligible to become a well trained graduate teacher having multidisciplinary experiences through this college.

The college proudly adheres to the guidelines set forth by the Department of Higher Education, Government of Assam, as well as the University Grants Commission (UGC). Managed by the esteemed Governing Body appointed by the Government of Assam. The institution ensures effective administration and visionary leadership, fostering an environment conducive to academic excellence and strategic growth. Both the programmes will be run as not for profit as mandated by the NCTE and ensured by the State Government.

Intake Capacity

This College has submitted its application to start two units of four-year Integrated B.A.-B.Ed. and B.Sc.B.Ed. programmes, with an intake capacity of 50 students in each programme.

Eligibility for Admission into ITEP Programmes

For admission into the Integrated B.A.-B.Ed. and B.Sc.B.Ed.programmes, candidates must meet the following criteria:

a) Candidates with minimum fifty percent (50%) marks in Senior Secondary or plus two examination or its equivalent (under 5+3+3+4 pattern) from a recognised board.

b) The relaxation in percentage of marks in the Senior Secondary or plus two examination or its equivalent examination (under 5+3+3+4 pattern) and in the reservation for Scheduled Caste or Scheduled Tribe or Other Backward Class or Persons with Disabilities or Economically Weaker Section and any other categories shall be as per the rules of the Central Government or State Government or Union Territory Administration, wherever applicable.

Admission Procedure

a) Admission in ITEP shall be through a suitable subject and aptitude test conducted by the National Testing Agency (NTA) and shall be standardized keeping in view the linguistic and cultural diversity of the country.

b) A single nation-wide entrance test called National Common Entrance Test (NCET) will be conducted by NTA for admission to the 4 Year ITEP under the recommendations of NEP 2020.

c) The mode of examination shall be online/Computer Based Test (CBT) in multilingual pattern and its score would reflect the relative performance level of the candidate for merit-based selection to secure the admission. d) Scorecard shall be prepared by NTA and admission shall be done through centralised online counselling.

e) At the time of admission to the programme, the candidate must indicate the subjects/discipline (B.A. B.Ed./B.Sc. B.Ed.).

f) Any change in the choice of subjects shall be made within one month from the date of commencement of the programme.

Admission Fees

The fee structure is to be determined in accordance with the guidelines provided by the state government, ensuring that it remains affordable and accessible to all eligible students and shall not charge any donations, capitation fee etc. from the students.
